Dean Duke, Marion County Sanitarian and Public Health Administrator, offered his resignation to the Board of County Commissioners Monday to become effective May 1. He has accepted a supervisory position with the Kansas State Board of Agriculture to help implement the new state Grade-A milk inspection law as passed by the legislature.

Among those gathered at the Southwestern Bell Telephone Business Office in Marion last Thursday to celebrate "Telephone Pioneer Day" with a tasty birthday cake were Bill Finke, Ida Taylor, George Rhodes, Hope Koch, and Neva Fruechting.

Cash Day in Marion will be discontinued. The Wednesday April 8 drawing will be the last one. One of most successful retail promotions in the state of Kansas for about 17 years, the event had pumped more than $60,000 into the local economy in the form of prize money.

Miss Michelle (Shelly) Hett flew to Los Angeles last Tuesday compliments of Continental Airlines to interview for a position with that company. She will return to Los Angeles the first week in June to attend their hostess training school.

Warren Hart of Marion had the opportunity to see and photograph Mrs. Richard Nixon, the nation's "first lady" when she toured the School of the Ozarks at Point Lookout, Missouri, recently.

Thirteen boys, Lance Alexander, Bill Darrow, Roger Jackson, Mark Rathert, Steve Fillipp, James Druse, Steve Widler, Brent Colle, Billy Newlin, Richard Britain, Jeff Longhofer, Chris Costello, and H.A. Crainer, are out for the MHS golf squad this season.
