A Hereford steer shown by Tom Donahue was named grand champion and the crossbred steer of Tom Thomas was named reserve grand champion of the Marion County 4-H Spring Show held Saturday at the Saddle Horse Association barn in Marion.

Gerry Harris, owner of Marion Motor Center, reported to Sheriff J.E. O'Hair Friday morning that his large billboard which was set recently two miles east of Marion on U.S.-50 had been sawed down. The two hedge wood posts which held it were in two pieces and the sign was on the ground.

For the second year in a row, Joni Kroupa, Pilsen eighth grader, has won the Marion County Spelling Contest. Second place went to Nancy Hiebert of Hillsboro and third to Alice Gantz of Marion.

Mr. and Mrs. John Mehl entertained Saturday at a birthday supper in honor of three-year-old Sherri Winkler.

Mr. and Mrs. Earl Looney of Florence announce the engagement of their daughter, Jo Ann, to Sgt. James L. Ottensmeier, son of Mr. and Mrs. Levern Ottensmeier of Marion. The wedding date has been set for May 23.

The Marion High School four-man golf team comprised of Bill Newlin, Mark Rathert, Lance Alexander, and Roger Jackson placed first last Thursday in a tournament at Hesston. The two-man team placed fifth. The Marion players considered as a six-man squad placed second in the tournament behind first place Buhler. Schools participating were Buhler, Marion, Valley Center, Circle, Nickerson, Halstead and Hesston.
