Flood waters rolled over the Marion community Saturday morning with warning sirens sounding at 6:45 and again at 9 a.m. The water reached Main Street before 10, and stayed for 12 hours.

Funeral services for Wayne Varenhorst, 54, owner and operator of Van's Clothing Store in Marion, will be held Thursday afternoon. He died at his home early Tuesday morning from a heart attack.

Ronald L. Hurtig of Salina has purchased the Keazer Electric Shop in Marion, formerly operated by the late Paul Keazer.

It's retirement time for both Mr. and Mrs. Erwin E. (Mike) Lewerenz, who have spent a lot of years in the post office at Lincolnville. He will retire after 37 years of service and she after 28 years.

Fourteen members of Brownie Troop 56 hosted Mrs. Gerry Kruse's first grade girls May 18 at a meeting held at the Christian church. First grade guests were Sheryl Bishop, Sherri Grentz, Lori Kelsey, Melissa Robinson, Denise Socolofsky, Sherry Snelling, Ann Marie Waner, Loraine Wiens and Jamie Shirley.

The pulpit at Valley United Methodist church will be filled by a different pastor June 13 when Rev. John Daly assumes the charge. He replaces Roger Harmon who has been pastor here for two years.

Judge Walter Hembrow presided at District Court Wednesday morning for the final time following a 14-year tenure. A new judge has been appointed. John Rugh, Abilene attorney, will take over the judgeship June 1. He spent most of Thursday, May 20 in Marion acquainting himself with local people and court facilities.

Members of the Over 50 Club will have their annual "dinner out" at Betty's Café in Hillsboro on Tuesday, June 1.
