Wheat harvest in Marion County is going "full blast" this week, and prospects look good for one of the best years in recent history. Some elevator operators state that they have heard several reports of 30 to 35 bushels yield per acre.

This week's Vagabond Weekend winners are Mr. and Mrs. Sherwin Ammeter. Mrs. Ammeter's name was drawn at Marion Hardware as a preliminary winner last week. The Ammeter family plans to enjoy a vacation in Six Flags over Texas between Dallas and Fort Worth.

A double birthday party took place in the Marion park June 14. The party was in celebration of the fourth birthdays of two cousins, Annette Kline and Nancy Kline. Annette's birthday is June 14 and Nancy's is June 17. Those present were Kristine, Kerry and Mike Kelsey, Angela, Michelle and DeWayne Helmer, JoElla and Jalynn Smith, Lori Endres, Tracy Burkholder, Marnie Bina, Kim Kline and some of the mothers.

Melvin Hett, son of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Hett of Marion, was appointed to the Campus Improvement Committee of the Student Council at Southwestern College in Winfield. He is a graduate of Marion High School.

Major Richard Schwartz of the United States Marine Corps was the speaker at the noon luncheon of Marion Kiwanis Club on Monday. The major is preparing for his second tour of duty in Vietnam and is home on leave at the present time.

Tony Gaines of Peabody was the winner of the Tri-City Golf Tournament held Sunday at Marion Country Club. Flight winners were Bob Hoover in the first flight, Jim Druse in the second, and Albert Ollenberger in the third.
