Ninth winner of the Marion County Record Vagabond Weekend contest was Edwin Seibel of Marion shown with his wife Alice and Dean Pippin, IGA store owner where the winner registration was drawn. The Seibels are looking forward to an all-expense paid weekend at the city of their choice.
Roger "Bud" Hannaford, Marion abstractor, was elected president of the Marion County Regional Planning Commission at a meeting held June 11 at the Hillsboro City Building. He succeeds Dr. Franklin Harms of Hillsboro.
An eight year old boy, Mark Krotz, swam a mile, then ran about a mile to a farm home Monday to notify authorities that three members of his family were clinging to an overturned boat on the Marion Reservoir. When the rescue boat arrived at the scene, the boy's father, Florian Krotz, 40, was balancing the boat while his wife, Nina, 37, and son, Gregg, 12, were hanging on. The family was taken into the rescue boat and returned to the shore.
One of 76 students who will receive diplomas at the 59th annual commencement program of the Wesley School of Nursing in Wichita July 14 will be Patty Plenert, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Plenert of Marion.

The class of 1950 of Marion High School celebrated its 20th anniversary in Marion July 4. The organizing committee was comprised of Donna and Jim Fruechting, Norma Crainer, Bud Hannaford, Dick Bredemeier, Kathryn Hett, Joyce Janzen, and Dorothy Conyers.
