A full century has gone by since Presbyterians organized at Marion Centre and petitioned the State of Kansas for a charter to operate a church corporation. It is time to renew the charter. As a part of the 100th anniversary year of the church, Sunday will be designated "Charter Sunday" and the ceremony of receiving a document providing for a second century of legal church operation will be a part of the morning worship service.

Clyde French, 83, of Route 3, Marion, was dead upon arrival at St. Luke Hospital where he was taken by Thompson ambulance Monday afternoon after a two-car accident a mile and a half west of Marion.

Three more entries for the Miss Marion County beauty pageant have been received by entries chairman Edith Rempel. The new entries bring to nine the number of girls expected to compete in the contest. New entrants include Roxie Hague, Bev Hoch, and Shirley Delk, all of Marion.

Carol Steinel, Patty Rackley, Jinette Mellott, Michelle Mellott, Lorie Schmidtberger and Terry Enos left Tuesday for two weeks at Girl Scout Camp Wiedemann near Leon.

Miss Arlene Peters, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Peters, Marion, became the bride of Mr. Alvin Hett, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Hett, Lincolnville, July 10 at Trinity Mennonite Church, Hillsboro.

Gary Melcher, one of the outstanding athletes on the K-State football team, will appear before the Marion Kiwanis Club at noon, July 19, as part of the Wildcats' third annual Purple Pride Ambassador Tour.

This week's birth announcements include a daughter, Charis Robin, born June 10 to Mr. and Mrs. Delbert McElfresh; a son, Jeff Alan, born July 3 to Mr. and Mrs. Dean Williams of rural Marion; a son, Daniel William, born July 8 to Mr. and Mrs. Douglas McElhiney of Peabody; and a daughter, Judy Ann, born July 10 to Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Herbel of Hillsboro.

Janel Klose has started to work at the First National Bank, Wichita as an MT/ST operator. Janel is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Klose of Marion.
