Within a year, 28 units of housing for elderly or handicapped people will become a reality in Marion. "Hilltop Manor" on east Lawrence Street, in northeast Marion is ready to go. Ed Navrat, executive director for the Local Housing Authority, received a telegram from Congressman Garner E. Shriver August 5 stating that financing of the project had been approved.

The summer reading program at Marion Library, "Around the World in 80 Days," has been completed, according to Mrs. Leroy Riggs, librarian. Debbie Silhan, winner of the junior group, read 66 books and Georgia Kline was winner in the children's group, having read 126 books.

Governor Robert Docking announced Wednesday he has appointed Charles Frans, Marion, to Sheriff of Marion County. Frans fills the unexpired term of J.E. O'Hair, who resigned.

Marion National Bank's Midget League team won its league tournament Saturday. Team members are Jeff Richmond, Greg Carlson, Jerry Conyers, Mike Classen, Mark Ottensmeier, David Rittgers, Rodney Richmond, Jack Hett, Brad Heerey, Dart Henry, and Dennis Hamm.

The Earl Lawrence family went to Colorado on the "Vagabond Vacation" which they won through the advertising campaign that ran this summer in the Record. The Lawrences went to Denver and found the big mile-high city filled with interest for parents and children. They were guests of the Radisson Hotel. Everything was "first class," Mrs. Lawrence said.
