Kansas is initiating a new system of issuing car tags this year. This alphabetical procedure is expected to eliminate the peak work loads of the motor vehicle office around the first of the year. The entire system is expected to be in operation by July 1972.

Former resident Dr. Homer E. Socolofsky, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. A.L. Socolofsky, has been invited to be the speaker September 28 at the Old Settlers' Day festivities. Dr. Socolofsky has been an associate professor of history at K-State since 1947.

Contestants this year for the title of Miss Marion County are Wendy Oblander of Durham, Tamara Case and Patsy Wood of Marion, Rita Kreutziger, Virginia Base, Vicki Adrian, and "Tuss" Herbel of Hillsboro.

Over 300 pounds of frozen meat were taken one night last week from the farm home of Mr. and Mrs. Dale Christensen, southwest of Marion. The Christensens are on vacation and the break-in was discovered by Mrs. Eddie Klose and son Mike when they went out Friday to feed the dogs at the farm.

Miss Carol Sue Vinduska and Helmut Wituk exchanged marriage vows August 8 at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Pilsen.

Mrs. John Berns, Peabody, appeared on the Joyce Livingston KTVH television morning show August 13. She demonstrated a recipe for barbecue brisket of beef and told of the plans of the Cow Belles organization for the Mid-American Fair in Topeka September 11 to 16.

The city has purchased a "hi-ranger" truck to be used in working on electrical lines, installing transformers and tree trimming.
