Ed Navrat, executive secretary of the Local Housing Authority at Marion, addressed a group of about 30 people gathered at the edge of East Lawrence Street Monday morning for the Hilltop Manor ground breaking ceremonies.

Two Marion County students at Kansas State University have been awarded Second Century scholarships for the 1970-71 school year. They are Mary Ann Hajek, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Hajek of Tampa and Laura K. Pankratz, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harrison Pankratz of rural Hillsboro.

Weddings announced in this issue included those of Miss Cynthia Kay Kleiber, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Kleiber of Ramona to Terrance L. Vinduska, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lou Vinduska of rural Marion and Miss Mona Christiansen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. Irvin Christiansen of Durham, and Donald Herbers, son of Mr. and Mrs. Sylvester Herbers of Winfield.

The Marion Ladies Softball season ended Sunday when the team finished off the year by playing their fathers, brothers and sons in a final exhibition game. Those posing for a picture after the game included Harold Bowers and son Gene Bowers who coached the team, Harriet Bina, Lisa Holmes, Patti Vinduska, Sharon Kroupa, Janice Bowers, Denise Helmer, Kathy Kelsey, Dena Edmisson, Rita Oller, Donna Shirley and Elora Robinson.

A number of Marion County students at the University of Kansas have earned academic honors during the spring semester. Included are the following from Marion: Norman L. Bowers, Linda C. Loney, and Norman R. Mueller.
