The Kansas Highway Commission is starting a corridor study for the proposed improvement of U.S.-56 highway in Marion County, according to John D. Montgomery, director of highways.

Mr. and Mrs. Dave Jackson purchased the interest of Dean Pippin in Dean's IGA store on Tuesday. Dave Jackson has been a partner in Dean's IGA since the store was first opened in Marion in July four years ago. At that time the business was purchased from K.C. Wingerd. Dean Pippin will now devote full time to his wholesale candy business.

Beverly Hoch, daughter of Mrs. Wharton Hoch, was crowned "Miss Marion County 1971" at the county fair in Hillsboro Thursday. Vicki Adrian, reigning fair queen for the past year, placed the crown on Beverly during the final evening of the fair.

Miss Donna Ewert, bride-elect of Jerome Hajek, was honored with a miscellaneous bridal shower August 20 in the fellowship hall of Eastmoor United Methodist Church. Hostesses were Anita Hett and Janel Klose of Wichita and Vickie Boese and Shirley Helmer of Marion.

Mr. and Mrs. Larry Lange and Ricky were pleasantly surprised Sunday August 29, when a basket dinner was held at their home in celebration of their fifth wedding anniversary which was Saturday, the 28th.

Mr. and Mrs. Jim Meisinger have returned from a 10-day vacation in Oregon. They visited their son, Robert Meisinger, Mrs. Meisinger, and family at Beaverton, a suburb of Portland, and enjoyed visiting many places of interest in that vicinity.

Norman R. Mueller, son of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Mueller of rural Marion, left Wednesday for New Haven, Conn., here he will be a first year law student at Yale University.

Shooting a hot 36 holes of golf with a score of 140 brought Rosse Case medalist honors at the annual Marion Country Club championship tournament over the Labor Day holiday. Norman Alexander finished right behind Case with a 141, and took handicap honors with 131. Bob Edmunds was first flight winner, Jack Summerville took first place in the second flight, and Warren Woerz won the third flight.
