Workmen were busy this week finishing the Memorial Fountain in Marion's Central Park. The fountain began operating Tuesday night. This should be an outstanding attraction, and one of which the community may be justly proud.

Earth moving equipment is making the ground ready to start construction of Marion's 20-unit half million dollar low-rent house complex across the street south of Spain Guest Home, just east of the municipal swim pool.

Kiwanians were busy after their meeting Monday noon with hoes and shovels, cleaning weeds and grass out of the cracks and joints in Marion's downtown sidewalks. Each year the club takes on the project to get the sidewalks all clean and neat for Old Settlers' Day.

Some 40 guests were invited to a bridal shower Thursday afternoon honoring Miss Patty Sue Plenert, bride-elect of Gary Peoples. The shower was held at the home of Mrs. Alden Slusser. Co-hostesses were Mrs. Harold Conyers, Mrs. Dick Bredemeier, Mrs. Homer Stenzel and Mrs. Bill Holmes.

Old Settlers will get a good look at Marion's newest building Saturday when they return for the celebration. The fine new addition to Marion Street will soon be completed and will house the Hannaford Abstract Company and the Case and Son Insurance Agency. It replaces the former Case Building which was destroyed by fire several months ago.

Dr. R. William Wygle, former superintendent of schools in Marion, will be inaugurated Oct. 28 as the 13th president of Arkansas College at Batesville, Ark.
