The return of warming, drying, bright sunlight this week, after a prolonged absence, is bringing smiles to the faces you meet on the street.

The Santa Fe Railway has made application to the State Corporation Commission for authority to discontinue the services of their agent at the station of Canada in Marion County. Their petition also includes discontinuance of express service at Canada.

Birth announcements this week include the following: Patrick Joseph, 8 pounds 7 ounces, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Kelly of Newton and Ronald Patrick, 7 pounds 6 ounces, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Jirak. Both boys were born on March 17, St. Patrick's Day.

Members of the Marion County Hereford Association and guests had dinner Monday evening at Kingfisher's Inn. Dr. Earl Wood, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Bernhardt, Tom Potter, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Mayginnes, Mr. and Mrs. John Sloup and Mrs. Amanda Schall were guests of the association.

Mrs. Harry Koslowsky was the recipient of many lovely baby gifts from friends at a shower given in her honor Tuesday evening at the home of Mrs. Leslie Broadstreet. Mrs. Velber Bevan, Mrs. Howard Groening and Mrs. Herbert Regier were assisting hostesses.

Mrs. Victor Bernhardt, Lost Springs, missed $50 in this week's Cash Day drawing. Mrs. Pete Tajchman, Ramona, missed $75; Mrs. H.A. Selvy, Burns, missed $15; Mrs. Otto Waltner, Marion, received $10; and Seth Bartel, Durham, missed $5.

The first political hat to be tossed in the ring in the county election contest is that of Sheriff Ezra Bernhardt. He announces this week that he will be a candidate for re-nomination on the Republican ticket.
