James M. Benjamin, for the past two years superintendent of schools at Burns, Kansas, has been contracted by the Marion Board of Education for the position of high school principal beginning this fall. He will take over the post vacated by Ray Rose, who has accepted a similar position in the Larned schools.

Marion Skating Rink was damaged almost beyond repair early Sunday evening by a fire which originated with an exploding stove. It is a theory that the fire was the result of an explosion and that dust from sanding the floors early that afternoon had a lot to do with the start of the fire.

LaVina Hoffman and Patsy Slusser, Marion High School juniors, will attend Sunflower Girls' State at Lawrence from June 6-15. Two MHS junior boys, Milford Hett and Lane Broadstreet, have been selected to attend Boys' State from June 1-8 at Wichita.

Jimmie Ottensmeier celebrated his 10th birthday Tuesday by inviting in a number of his friends to the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Levern Ottensmeier. The boys enjoyed games and a birthday cake served by Mrs. Ottensmeier. Those present included Bobby and Garry Klose, Marvin and Eddie Meisinger, Larry Heidel, George Jackson, Mike Wood, Jimmie Magee, Chuckie Bredemeier, Pat Costello, Dennis Highsmith, Wally Slusser, Bobby Good and Eddie Frickey.

Johnny Higgins, two-year-old son of a local pill pusher, claims to have a hypertensive stick horse. But he gives it "twinkle-izers."

Winners for the first three weeks of a 12-week snooker tournament now in progress at Marion Recreation are Mark Childs, Pete Klein, and Edson Childs.
