Charles Heerey was installed as commander of the local Veterans of Foreign Wars post last Thursday night at ceremonies at the clubhouse. Other officers are: Stanley Anderson, quartermaster; Delford Winter, post advocate; Robert Richmond, chaplain; Chester McKibbin, post surgeon; and Lawrence Gilbert, three year trustee.

Elaine Klassen, 8th grade student from Hillsboro was the top winner in the county spelling contest held a week ago. Norma Krause of Lincolnville was the second place winner, Bill Winkley of Finch took third, and Sheryl Ratzlaff from Gordon school, was fourth.

Jim Christensen, 6-0, 174-pound Marion tailback, will accept a football scholarship to the University of Kansas next September, Coach Jack Mitchell disclosed today. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Christensen, Marion.

Five Marion men, workers at Beechcraft Aircraft plant east of Herington, were involved in an unexplained accident early Wednesday morning. The car, driven by Ezra Helmer, spun around and rolled two times. Harold Johnston was taken to the Herington hospital. He was not seriously injured and was released. Other men in the car were Sherman Marler, Donald King and Bob Highsmith.

Officers, directors and employees of the 10 banks of Marion County will have a dinner meeting Thursday, April 17, in the Fellowship Hall of the Methodist Church. Earl Kreuter, president of the organization will preside. Mr. Elwood Jones, president of the Farmers and Merchants State Bank of Derby, will by the guest speaker.

Due to a number of complaints received by the city commission, it was necessary this week to pass an ordinance against the use of BB guns and so forth within the city limits of Marion.
