MEMORIES:   50 years ago

A new record player was donated to St. Luke Hospital last week by the Twentieth Century Club, local federated study group. The club has taken part in a number of projects for the hospital and this latest donation is a four speed record player for the new recreation room. A complete stock of records was also donated with the player. Mrs. Jack Beaston and Mrs. Edward Costello represented the club in presenting the items to Sister Mary Morris.

Silas Weidenbener had the misfortune of shattering both heels in an accident while trimming trees at the C.J. Ross home Tuesday afternoon. The limb he cut fell wrong and broke the ladder away from under him. He was using a power saw and held it in front of him while he jumped in order to keep from being cut. He landed on his heels from about 14 feet on a concrete walk and shattered the bones.

A new "Green River" ordinance is published as a legal in this week's paper, covering all phases of door-to-door selling, The previous ordinance had excluded churches and other such group, but the new one is all inclusive.

Rev. and Mrs. R.S. Fanestil were honored with a farewell supper Sunday evening at the Christian Church. This Sunday will be their last Sunday here. He will then take a vacation before assuming pastorate of another church.

Several members of the Home and Garden Club attended the flower show at Emporia Friday. Those going were Mrs. E.E. Phillips, Mrs. Jay Beaston, Mrs. Leslie Powell, Mrs. Alex H. Case, and Mrs. Howard Mullen.

Memorial services were held Tuesday afternoon from the Thompson Funeral Home for Lucy M. Burkholder, much-loved former Marion librarian who passed away Saturday in an Abilene hospital.

Leaving Sunday for Camp Wentz at Ponca City, Okla., will be Tom Tucker, Maxie Jackson, Dan Mallnow, Chris Hauser, Carl Elling and Jean Morse. This is a Presbyterian camp open for this week to 7th and 8th graders in the Wichita Presbytery.
