Winter's first heavy snowfall, accompanied by strong winds, arrived in Marion County Monday evening, and by Tuesday morning many east-west roads were blocked with drifts. At no time, however, were U.S. -56 and U.S.-77 completely closed, though travel was precarious. All roads were open by Wednesday night.

Bill McKibbin, owner and operator of the Marion Cabinet Shop, has announced plans to sell his business at auction and is taking over a café in Tampa. He formerly operated a café in Marion, but more recently was in the cabinet shop business.

Carolyn Merrill will leave Saturday with a group of KU students from Lawrence to Winter Park, Colo., for the between semester vacation where they will enjoy skiing and other winter sports at the popular resort.

Tammy Case invited a number of friends in Saturday afternoon to help her celebrate her seventh birthday. Guests included Beverly Hoch, Cathleen Costello, Susan Hansen, Beverly Elling, Patsy Wood, Kathleen Weber, Jan Van Buren, Janice Wygle, Kris Conyers, Cheryl Holcomb, and Janice Jantz.

A baby shower was given for Mrs. Harold Wiens Jan. 22 at the home of Mrs. Earl Van Buren. Hostesses were Mrs. Van Buren, Mrs. Leon Mills and Mrs. Ray W. Rose.

Bob Kline of Marion has been appointed assistant business manager of the Emporia State College student newspaper, The Bulletin, for the spring semester. Kline, a junior business major, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry R. Kline of rural Marion.

The Marion Warriors defeated the Peabody "Blue Warriors" Friday night and took a more firm hold on the Cottonwood Valley League lead.
