Sixteen cards out of the middle of an 85-car freight train were derailed near Antelope early Tuesday evening. No one was injured, but considerable track and rolling stock were torn up. The accident took place about 7:30 p.m. Twenty-six cars and the locomotive preceded the damaged part of the train.

The new consolidated high school building now under construction for Joint Rural High School District 11 had received an award for outstanding construction and planning from the American Association of School Administrators. This newest rural high school is located on the east side of U.S.-56 and U.S.-77 between Lincolnville and Lost Springs.

The snow and lengthy cold spell turned out to be special fun for kids at Bown Corby School. They were all taken for a sleigh ride, big bunches at a time. Leslie Broadstreet had put an old sleigh given him back into commission and hooked it to his station wagon and offered each class a ride. The group pictured on the front age includes first grade teacher Mrs. William DuVall and students Maurice Allen, Katheryn Bezdek, Randy Broadstreet, Tamara Case, Thomas Cowan, Charles Duffy, Jimmie Gardner, Deborah Glover, Marc Hauser, Galen Helmer, Beverly Hoch, Cheryl Holcomb, Janice Jantz, Robert Kayton, Steven May, Gary Melcher, Jimmie Swan, William Thomas, Kathleen Weber, Douglas Westerhaus, John Winchester, Jan Van Buren, and Sheryl Kelley.

Donna Kelsey is the 1958 Marion High School basketball queen. Donna was crowned by Tom Shirley. Her attendants, Sue Summervill, Mary Williams, Rosalie Tajchman and Sonja Sanders, all dressed in formals, were attended by Jim Gilbert, Jim Christensen, Neil Hoopes and Junior Post. Five small children, Danny Frickey, Judy and Johnny Yaussi, Tamara Case, and Laurie Brose, carried corsages for the queen and her attendants.
