The 1957-58 Marion High School basketball squad flashed through the season to a second straight championship in the Cottonwood Valley League. They had a league record of 13 wins and one defeat. Team members are Gerald Kelsey, Junior Post, Gary Helmer, Delton Richmond, Neil Hoopes, John Christensen, Jim Gilbert, Warren Vogel, Jim Christensen, Tom Shirley, Delbert Matz, John Russell, Bud Kelsey, Keith Conyers, Bill Carr, Gary Loveless, Dennis Navrat, Ron Oelschlager, and Tom Gardner. Head coach is Floyd Yaussi with Ed Frickey as assistant coach and John Kline, manager.

Mrs. Bill Caselman entertained a number of friends Thursday after school in honor of Carol's birthday. Games were played and ice ream and cake were enjoyed by the following: Carol Cowan, Melody Thompson, Connie Jost, Jean Christensen, Barbara Christensen, Neva Kelsey, Jackie Evans, Nancy Kayton, Cherrie Knoblock, and the honoree, Carol.

Charles Frans of Peabody has been hired by the city to fill the vacancy on the police department created by the retirement of Officer Harry Mott. The change will take place Saturday, March 1.

Marlys Ann Stika was crowned queen of the basketball court at Lincolnville Friday evening at the homecoming game with Goessel. Miss Stika, escorted to the throne by Donald Vinduska, was crowned by Jim Svoboda, captain of the team. Attendants, Barbara Holub and Rita Silhan, were escorted by Jim Svoboda and Dennis Miller.

Mrs. George Heidel invited guests last Thursday after school to help Larry Gene celebrate his 10th birthday. After playing with their favors of airplane kites, the following boys enjoyed individual cakes and ice cream: Dennis Conyers, Bobby Hoch, Dean Jost, Bobby May, Wayne King, Dennis Maggard, Rodney Oelschlager, Sammy Bernhardt, Maurice Williams, and Jimmie Ottensmeier. His sisters, Sarah Ann, Debra Kay and Norma Jean, helped their mother with the party.
