Marion High School "Warriors" captured the Cottonwood Valley League title this year with a 13-1 record. Team members are Verlin Meier, John Williams, Larry Schlehuber, Jerry Richards, Kenneth Gardner, Leon Lais, Joe Dvorak, Paul Roberts, David Montgomery, Jim Christensen, Larry Fisher, Roland Vogel, and John Minear. Head coach is Floyd Yaussi. His assistants are Ed Frickey and Dick Wall.

A Wichita paper Saturday carried the picture and story of Charles O'Bryant's promotion from colonel to brigadier general. O'Bryant, commander of the 89th Infantry, army reserve, enlisted as a buck private in the old 2nd Kansas Infantry in 1917 and has held every rank from private to general either in the 35th or 89th divisions.

Among the 1577 students enrolled at Emporia State Teachers College during the current semester are the following from Marion: Kerns Allen, Roger Hannaford, Marilyn Hayen, Max Hayen, Larry Hoover, Donald Kline, Leonard Navrat, Marion Navrat and Ronald Post.

John Reed Williams, outstanding Marion High School senior, received a telegram from Senator Andrew Schoeppel this week that he was being named first alternate for an appointment to the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis. John is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Williams of Marion.

Army Pvt. Jack D. Williams, son of Mr. and Mrs. Irvin C. Williams, Route 1, Marion, and Pfc. Joe D. Hess, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Hess, Peabody, recently completed a winter training exercise with the 1st Cavalry's 8th Regiment at Mount Fugi, Japan.
