Marion City Commissioners in regular session Monday evening agreed to purchase a number of trees locally to start landscaping of the new municipal pool. The trees, already on hand by local nurseryman, are acclimated for this area and work can start at once toward improving the appearance of the grounds around the pool.

James S. Kline, former Marion County sheriff and now a member of the Kansas Bureau of Investigation last week received a very coveted assignment for the next three months. He has been chosen to go to Washington, D.C., for special police work training at the Federal Bureau of Investigation Academy.

If you are sick of the soggy weather of late, take notice that just one year ago we were suffering dust storms in Marion County and were still in the longest drought of history.

Lou Wheeler celebrated her 16th birthday March 2 by inviting some of her friends to a line party at the Kaw Theatre, where they enjoyed

"An Affair to Remember." After the show they went to her home for refreshments. Those invited were Sue Summervill, Carol Conyers, Cindy Hauser, Molly Brodhead, Beverly Pankratz, LeLaunie Lorts, Jean Dody, Margie Winter, Karen Thole, Naomi Stenzel, Joyce Remmers and Ann Bass.

Word has been received from Dale Johnson, who has been in the service located at Fort Knox, Ky., that he is being transferred to a camp in Connecticut.

When the weatherman dealt the cards last week he certainly dealt a varied hand. Starting Tuesday night with thunder and lightning and rain which must have amounted to an inch or more, we ran the gamut through hail, sleet, ice snow, wind, and blowing snow.
