Marion, and the central part of the nation, was given a cold snap back to winter reality this week after having been lulled for days into thoughts of gardens, shirt sleeves and fishing worms. Cold, north winds with freezing temperatures and snow replaced the record-breaking warm weather of last week.

The State Corporation Commission last week handed down its decision on the Rock Island's application to close the Antelope station when it announced that the station will be closed April 1. Under the new ruling, the station and express agency will be opened for two months during the wheat harvest to permit shipment of grain from that point.

Mrs. Norma Hannaford and daughter, Mary, and Mrs. Ira Newcomer were hostesses to friends Saturday afternoon for a miscellaneous shower honoring Sarabel Wolf whose wedding is an event of April 17.

Pvt. Marcel Benda, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. J. Benda of north of Marion, is now in the Hawaiian Islands, having been transferred there early this month from Ft. Bliss. He is a member of an anti-aircraft battery.

A trip to "Emerald Isle" was the theme when the Marion High School Y-Teens and their mothers met March 22 at the city building for dinner and an evening of Irish entertainment. Wanda Propp, Y-Teen president, acted as toastmistress chairman. Sporting green bow-ties, serving boys included Verlin Meier, Joe Dvorak, C.E. Ford, Jerry Richards, Leon Lais, Ken Gardner, Don Billinglsy, John Rupp, Dick Hoch, Dave Montgomery, Oscar Davies and Bruce Wingerd.
