Workmen of the Central Steel Tank company of Wichita are finishing the job of painting and repairing the water tower this week. The tank inside and out and the tower have been painted and the insulation of the "frost covering" of the pipe rising to the tank has been repaired.

Plans were made at the Monday noon meeting of Kiwanis to charter a bus to attend a Kansas City Athletics ball game in the near future. President Bill Meyer appointed Gerry Higgins as chairman of the committee to make plans for the trip. He will be assisted by Bill Holmes, Homer Stenzel and Ed Sandwell.

Within the next new months the four-party line telephone service in Marion will be discontinued and customers now using the service will be offered either a two-party or private line service.

Three seniors from the 1957 graduating class received awards at the commencement exercises last week. Warren Gardner was named valedictorian of the class with salutatorian honors earned by Elda Pankratz. Margie Bernhardt received the Balfour award.

The project to provide summer air conditioning in the offices at the county courthouse moved one step nearer completion this week with the arrival of the 20 individual units, ready for wiring and installation. The low and successful bidder was Loewen Radio, Hillsboro, on Fedders units.

Marion girls attending the CYS young peoples' camp at Camp Webster, north of Salina, this week are Sue Bratton, Lou Wheeler, Beverly Pankratz, Judy Richards and Joyce Nienstedt.

Miss Carol Schinnerer was honoree at a miscellaneous showers at the lake hall Friday evening. Miss Schinnerer is bride-elect of Larry Robertson. Hostesses were Mrs. Dick Bredemeier, Mrs. Ralph Richmond, Mrs. Clyde Richmond, Mrs. Glen Richmond, Mrs. Jess Richmond of Wichita and Mrs. Ernest Williams of Peabody.
