Hail, which accompanied the rain Saturday morning, did an estimated 80 to 100 percent damage to wheat and oats crops in the Grapes neighborhood northeast of Marion. Accompanying the rain which totaled 1.75 inches, there was such heavy hail that it measured two or three inches deep in spots and some still remained on the ground that afternoon.

Edward Colburn, Marion attorney, this week filed for the office of probate judge following announcement that Jay Hargett, incumbent, will not run for re-election.

Mrs. Rosa Remmers announced the engagement of her daughter, Vera Mae, to John Wesley Wooldridge, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Wooldridge. No wedding date has been set.

A brand new, fully stocked Western Auto Store opened in Marion Wednesday, owned and operated by E.F. "Brownie" Schroer.

Weddings reported in this week's issue were those of Patsy Jane Harris and Max Merrill, Marion; Luella Beneke, Lincolnville, and James W. Snelling, El Dorado; Darlene Richmond and Charles Gutsch, Marion; Dolly May Highwood, Emporia, and Lloyd Soyez, Marion; Darlene Johnson and Herbert McReynolds, Ventura, California.

Rev. Francis Maguire, pastor of Holy Redeemer Catholic parish, Tampa, observed his 40th anniversary as a priest June 13 with a special Mass in the morning and a dinner at one o'clock in the parish hall prepared by the parish ladies.

Wednesday was a great day in the lives of small Lincolnville boys when the circus came to town. Some spent nearly all afternoon, helping put up the tents and chairs, watering the animals, etc. In the evening, those boys who helped were given free tickets to see the wild animals.

Norma Hannaford entertained Friday evening with a buffet supper and a surprise personal shower honoring Miss Vinnie Wible, who expects to retire the first of July following many years in the Hannaford Abstract offices.
