Considerably activity transpired at the regular meeting of the Marion City Commission Monday evening which included was the hiring of a new policeman and the letting of the contract for sanitary service to a different man. Lyle Sanders was hired as a full-time policeman. He will replace Earl Pankratz who has voluntarily gone to part-time status as relief policeman. Harry Mott will remain as the other full-time policeman. Bids for the sanitary service contract were opened and read and Mike J. Bezdek was found to be the low bidder. He will take over operation on the trash and garbage collections starting August 1.

Thirteen Marion Boy Scouts and their leaders, James Meisner, Arthur Schmersey and Homer Stiller, will attend summer camp next week at Camp TaWaKoNi, near Augusta. The scouts are Gailen Broadstreet, Larry Evans, Steve Collett, Dick Morse, Lowell Ensey, James Meisner, Tim Colle, Carl Elling, Don Druse, Maurice Williams, Ron Druse, Mike Childs, and Keith Just.

Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Schwendiman are the parents of a boy born July 2 at St. Luke Hospital.

Jill Kline celebrated her seventh birthday Friday afternoon when her mother, Mrs. Jim Kline, invited a group of her friends for a party at the city park. Guests were Jeanne Keazer, Susan Yeagley, Linda Kelsey, Janice Wygle, Rita Jost, Linda Helmer, Sandra Davis, Becky Coe, Deborah VanZee, Cindy Powell, Linda Sutherland, Kathleen Westerhaus, Ginger Kayton, Beverly Hoch, Linda Oldham, Cathleen Costello, Tammy Case, Beverly Elling, and Kristine Kirchner.

The Peabody Chamber of Commerce and all residents of the community have again extended an invitation and a welcome to everyone in the area to join with them in an annual observation of Independence Day. The day's activities include three baseball games, basket dinners, a tractor safety demonstration, band concert and the traditional fireworks display. An amusement company will have rides and carnival attractions on the grounds.
