The terrific heat is still getting hotter and drier by the day. Thermometers have readings from 112 degrees to 122 which seems awfully hot. Gardens and crops are suffering.

The Marion Creamery, distributors in a large part of Kansas for a well-known brand of frozen foods, has just added extensive cold storage facilities for this expanding business.

The Cubby Hole Lunch, for many years owned and operated by the late Emory Hawbecker and currently run by Mr. and Mrs. Richard Dick, was purchased this week from Mrs. Hawbecker by the Cook Motor Company. It will remain in its present site on North Second street and will be leased or sold to the Dicks, C.E. Cook has announced.

Snooky Lanson, singing star of Your Hit Parade, will be featured July 30 and 31 at the Trig Ballroom, Wichita.

Douglas Morris this week joined the Marion County Extension Service staff as an agricultural agent, according to John Sloup, county agent.

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Druse and Pat DeWitt took A/3 Charles Robert Druse to Salina Monday evening after a 10-day leave at home. From there he will go to McClellan Air Base, California, from where he will be shipped to Arabia for foreign service.

Mr. and Mrs. J.L. Fruechting entertained a group Sunday evening in honor of their son, Jim, who is home on leave. Those there were Carol and Gary Mott, Ailene Winkley, Joyce and Bob Seibel, Dean Williams, Ray Richmond, Willard Hett, Sarabel Wolf, Donna Miesse, Raymond Sparks, Mr. and Mrs. Orlan Carroll, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Hett, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Darrow, and Mr. and Mrs. I.L. Klein. Ice cream and cake were served.

Mrs. J. Leo Brose, Michelle and Jerry took a birthday dinner to Wichita last Thursday to help her daughter Jeaneen celebrate her birthday. They were guests in the home of another daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Dean.

Miss Jean Engle, new Marion County Home Demonstration Agent, officially took up her duties this week.
