The Kansas Farm Bureau has appointed Wayne Colle of Iowa as their general insurance agent in Marion County. He succeeds Floyd Fike, for many years the Farm Bureau agent here. Mr. and Mrs. Colle and their three children, Timmy 9, Neil 5, and Brent 7 months, are in the process of locating a home in Marion.

All 38 of Marion County's rural schools have signed contracts with their teachers and are ready to start the 1954-55 term, according to C.C. Rice, county superintendent. There are three fewer schools than last year — two consolidated and one disorganized. There also are three closed districts, he said.

For the past week, Virgil Wiebe has been taking a group of Scouts over to Newton to the swimming pool in order that they may pass their Scout swimming tests for merit badges. Those who have been making the trip each morning are Kenneth Bowers, Lane Broadstreet, Gregory Henry, Dennis Navrat, Laurence Priddle, Junior Wiebe and Earl Winter.

Lenore Wheeler, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dave Wheeler, Marion, is one of the 635 young musicians who are registered for the 1954 High Plains Music Camp at Fort Hays State College August 8-14. She will play the flute and the snare drum at the annual camp.

Miss Patricia Meysing was the guest of honor at a bridal shower given Sunday afternoon in the Pilsen church basement. Hostesses were Mrs. Eugene Konecny, Mrs. Eugene Miller, and Mrs. James Loney Jr.

Margie Ann Bernhardt, Judy Coons, Nancy Keazer, Kay Navrat and Carmen Siebert enjoyed a swim party at the Newton municipal pool Wednesday and formed a line party at the Kaw Theatre afterward.

Tim Burkholder arrived this morning, Thursday, for a visit with friends before going on to New York, to visit his parents. Tim, who has been in service in Alaska for the past two years received his discharge from the Army at Camp Carson, Colo. He has been accepted at Brown University, Providence, R.I., where he will attend college this fall.
