Two Marion church congregations have welcome new ministers and their families to the community in recent weeks. Rev. Jack Krause, Mrs. Krause and two children come to Marion from Prescott, Ariz., to accept the pastorate at the Emmanuel Baptist Church. Rev. James D. Bass, Mrs. Bass and three children, come to Marion from Lawrence were he served as pastor of the Clinton Presbyterian Church.

Another anniversary that has just been passed is that of Al Holder, Marion's venerable barber. On Aug. 29th he completed 64 years of continuous barbering in this community, and this is a state record. In addition to this, his business is the third oldest in the town, exceeded only by the Case and Son insurance agency and the Marion County RECORD.

A large barn and contents were consumed in a fire early Saturday morning at William Stauffer estate at the south edge of Marion, operated by Albert O. Matz Jr. The roaring fire, set by a lightning bolt, spread rapidly thought the 40x70 foot structure. Loss of building and contents was estimated at $10,000 to $11,000. The nearby house and other buildings were saved by effective work by the Marion fire department.

Forty-seven fifth grade students from Marion took a field trip by bus to Hillsboro Tuesday morning to visit the traveling Cole Brothers circus. Accompanying the students were teachers Mrs. Pauline Edmunds and Mrs. Alice Sloup, and mothers Mrs. Lynn Christensen, Mrs. Gertrude Linn, Mrs. Gene Rector and Mrs. Daryl Merilatt.

As part of their regular program at last Monday noon's luncheon meeting, members of the Kiwanis Club were taken for a ride around town in one of the new 48-place Marion school buses. All agreed that the new vehicles were a big improvement and a fine addition to the local school's facilities.

E.H. Adair Oil Col moved in tools this week for an oil test just north of the Florence city limits, north of Highway 50, between Main Street and the Cottonwood River. The location is on John DeForest land. Part of the DeForest farm which is inside the city limits, was also leased under the test.
