Construction is almost completed on the new district office and shop building for the State Highway Commission being erected at the north edge of Marion.

C.E. Cook of the Cook Motor Co., local Buick-Chevrolet dealer, last week signed the franchise to handle the Opel automobiles for this area. The Opel is a German made General Motors automobile. They are to be imported to compete with other foreign made autos currently being sold in this country.

The Marion City Commission this Monday opened bids of five engine building companies on a proposed new generating unit for the municipal light plant. The new unit would provide for dual fuel use, natural gas and liquid fuel. The largest of the three present engines was successfully converted to dual fuel some time ago, and has provided the city with decided savings in fuel costs.

Mrs. Norma Hannaford was a guest Sunday at the Lawrence Slocombe home near Peabody for the celebration of their little grandson, Roger Hannaford's, third birthday. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bud Hannaford and sister of El Dorado, were additional guests for the day.

Sue Ann Bratton entertained friends Saturday evening with a party and dance at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bratton. Those present included Sue Summervill, Bess Haizlip, Kathy May, Lucinda Hauser, Beverly Pankratz, Jan Rathert, Lou Wheeler, Julia Wooldridge, Junior Bledsoe, Laurence Priddle, Dennis Navrat, Dennis Robertson, Coy Giles, Leland Deines, Ronny Breech, John Higgins, Buddy Winters, Marion Kelsey and Arnold Bailey of Wichita.

From Helen Navrat's Pilsen news) — Autumn is beginning to robe itself in red and gold. All along the river beds stand the trees in their fall colors, as if to say, "enjoy our robes for soon they'll fade away." The dark fields are greening in the color of wheat. The fall flowers in gardens and along roadside seem to say, "take the last look for we, too, will soon be gone."
