The Marion Hardware, owned by Mr. and Mrs. Albert Bernhardt, announced expansion plans this week at the same time as the announcement of the purchase of the building in which the store is located. The Bernhardts have purchased the building from Al Bogart, which includes the store room in which they are soon located, the store room which formerly housed Marion Recreation, and the apartments above both.
"No More Homework" is the choice of the juniors of Marion High School for their class play to be presented Nov. 9. The cast includes Carol Krispense, Al Konarik, Susan Olin, Howard Stenzel, David Montgomery, Jeanette Russell, Don Winter, Nancy Keazer, DeLoris Reed, Bruce Wingerd, Kay Navrat, Arlene Klein, Jerry Stage, Dick Hoch, Marion Summervill, Judy Coons, Roma Collett, and Carmen Siebert. A number of the students will be cast as students in the production.
Friends in Marion are glad to learn that Mr. and Mrs. Randolph Carpenter arrived safely at their home in Topeka after a flight from Yokohama, Japan, where Mrs. Carpenter had been in the hospital following an illness while on a world trip which they began in September. They had to abandon the trip due to Mrs. Carpenter's illness.
Members of the So and Sew Club and their husbands enjoyed a Halloween party Tuesday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Hilsenbeck with Mr. and Mrs. Art Schmersey as assisting hosts. Decorations, tallies, and refreshments carried out the Halloween theme. Mr. and Mrs. James Meisner received the high score prize. Consolation went to Mr. and Mrs. Lysle Russell. Mrs. Albert Williams retained the traveling prize.
Fire Chief Fred Knackstedt and four members of the Marion Fire Department, Walter Fruechting, Marion Smith, Junior Bredemeier, and Ruben Winter, attended one day of the four-day fire school at Hutchinson conducted by the State Fire Marshal's office.
Ed Nicklaus, former county commissioner, reported the theft last week of 200 bushels of wheat from his farm south of Peabody.
