Colorado Public Utilities, the Kansas Corporation Commission, and Greeley Gas Company of Denver, Colo., began operation yesterday of the local natural gas company, formerly Central West Utility Company, covering seven Kansas counties with a combined population of nearly 20,000.

County Clerk Fred Allen administered the oath of office to the newly elected officers of the Marion County Extension Council last Tuesday at their annual meeting. A.J. Klenda is the council president; Mrs. Larry Jost, the secretary; and Bill Logan, treasurer. Other members of the board are Cecil Medley, Dave Weibert, Chas. Eberhard, Mrs. Ralph Croyle, Mrs. Ted Friesen, and Mrs. W.H. Janzen.

Representatives of the State Highway Commission were in Marion Wednesday for the final inspection of the new district offices and shop buildings at Marion. Formal approval is expected within a few days.

The engagement of Miss Betty Ann Hiebert, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Hiebert, to Mr. Eugene Just, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Just, is announced. The wedding has been set for December 20th.

Miss Roma Collett entertained a group of friends Friday morning for brunch complimenting Miss Ann Lindhardt of East Orange, N.J., a college friend who had been her guest during the Thanksgiving holidays. Those present included Carlita Bass, Arlene Bowers, Joyce Seibel, Kay Riffel, Nancy Keazer, Carmen Siebert, DeLoris Reed, Jeannette Russell, and Carolyn Merrill.

Ten tickets were issued during the past week to motorists who violated the 15-minute parking ordinance in front of the post office. Four of these arrested have been fined in city police court, paying two dollars each, but the other six have as yet failed to appear. The four who have paid fines are Harry Berger of Ramona, Marvin Rogge of Salina, and E.K. Schroeder and Robert Bailey of Marion.

Mrs. Reuben Zerger, Marion, received $200 in this week's Cash Day drawing. Three persons, Mrs. Clarence Lorenz, Durham, Stanley Anderson, Marion, and Edward G. Stenzel, Marion, were not present. Rose Marie Vinduska, Marion, received $10.
