High winds, reaching estimated speeds of 60 miles per hour and possibly more, blasted Marion County Tuesday and caused widespread damage. No one was reported as being injured.

Mrs. Martin Riffel started work this week as a clerk in the county clerk's office. She fills a vacancy in the office brought about by the recent retirement of Mrs. Clara McKay. Mrs. Steve Winchester has been employed as clerk in the office of the district court. This position has been temporarily filled for the past several months by Mrs. Virgil Wiebe.

Mr. and Mrs. George King of Kingfisher's Inn at the Marion County Lake were notified this week that their eating place has been listed in two of the nation's best known directories of eating place, motels, hotels, etc. One is The Gourmet, a listing by Duncan Hines, and the other is the AAA handbook.

Larry Schlehuber, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Schlehuber, Marion, and Dennis Brunner, son of Mr. and Mrs. H.H. Brunner, Ramona, are members of the McPherson College Bulldogs basketball team for the 1957-58 season.

James Socolofsky, mechanical engineering junior from Ramona, has been appointed second lieutenant with the Air Force ROTC at Kansas State College.

A group of friends surprised Mr. and Mrs. Rosse B. Case Friday evening and gave them a rousing housewarming at their newly decorated home which is the old Rosse Case Sr. home on North Lincoln.

Winners in this week's Cash Day drawing were Mrs. W.H. Wangerin, Marion, who received $30; Mrs. R. Steinle, Marion, who received $20; and Luther Brooks, Florence, who received $5. Mrs. John Kleiber, Ramona, missed $50 and Mrs. Albert Peal, Lindsborg, missed $10.
