The three general hospitals in Marion County, St. Luke at Marion, Salem at Hillsboro, and Bethesda at Goessel, were among some 3500 hospitals and 615 privately supported four year colleges over the nation which, Monday, received the electrifying news that they would share in a $500 million grant from the Ford Foundation. Each of the three local institutions will receive $10,000.

The real winner again this year in the annual cherry pie baking contest conducted by the 4-H and Extension office, was the Sellers recipe. It won this year for Margaret Sellers, 15, of the Jayhawk 4-H Club, and had won three years in a row before this for her sister, Betty.

Marion High School Thespians will present two one-act Christmas plays, directed by Mrs. Loris Reed, in the high school auditorium on Dec. 23. The first presentation will be "Our Miss Brooks." Students in the cast are Roma Collett, Dave Montgomery, Judy Coons, Susan Olin, Oscar Davies, Bruce Wingerd, Jerry Stage, Carmen Siebert, Jeannette Russell, Lenore Wheeler, Arlene Kline, and Marion Summervill. John Rupp is the assistant director. "Song of Glory, is the second offering. The cast is comprised of Stan Ewert, Carlita Bass, Darrell Riffel, Kay Navrat, Dick Hoch, Nancy Keazer, Al Konarik, Don Winter, Tommie Kelsey, Joyce Seibel, DeLoris Reed, Gail Dody, Larry Fisher, and Lenore Wheeler. Stan Ewert is the assistant director.

A bountiful dinner was enjoyed at the Marion Country Club when relatives and friends gathered to honor Mrs. Wm. Fulkerson on her 80th birthday.
