The city commission of Marion this week passed a resolution going on record as being opposed to the proposed re-routing of highway U.S.-50N, emphasizing the inherent threat to life and property which would exist if such re-routing would be made.

L.L. Hadsell, president of the Farmers and Drovers National Bank, was elected president of the Marion Chamber of Commerce at the regular December meeting Monday night. Wm. F. McCartney, drugstore owner, was named vice president. The six directors elected are Ed Navrat, Lynn Christensen, Abe Reh, Leslie A Powell, Ray Longhofer, and Bud Pierce.

Marion Navrat, a senior music major at Emporia State, had the role of Bob Crachit in Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" which was presented on the Emporia campus four times last week. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Mike Navrat, Marion.

"Dear Santa: I want a baby doll with pajamas, bonnet, cape, 6 bottles, scales, pins, brush, funnel, cup, spoon and hot water bottle. It has a real dress with white trimming, white bow, booties, diaper, blue eyes and brown hair. Basketball and basket net, a garage set, 7 cars (2 red, 2 brown, 2 blue, 1 green). Carmen Hayen."

John Shahan and Ford Watson are expected the last of the week from Inglewood, Calif. John will visit his mother, Mrs. W.S. Shahan, and Ford will visit his brother J.C. Watson and family at Kingman for a week.

Gaylord J. Chizek, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Chizek, Ramona, has received Phi Kappa Phi freshman recognition at Kansas State College for outstanding scholarship during his first year of work at K-State.
