The Marion Warriors will play in the Christmas season invitational tournament at Madison this weekend. Each squad participating will consist of 10 boys with two alternates. The 10 from Marion making the trip will be Jim Christensen, Jim Gilbert, Neil Hoopes, Tom Shirley, Warren Vogel, Junior Post, Gary Helmer, Delton Richmond, Bud Kelsey and John Christensen. The alternates will be Keith Conyers and Bill Carr.

Lloyd E. Davies, seaman, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd M. Davies of Marion, returned to Norfolk, Va., Nov. 21 aboard the destroyer USS Borie after a four-month tour of duty in the Mediterranean. During the cruise, the Borie participated in NATO exercises as a unit of the U.S. Sixth Fleet. Davies is at present on leave, visiting over the holidays in Marion.

Winners in the final drawing Wednesday at the promotion conducted at Bud's Conoco Station for the past several weeks were: Adolph Woerz, 21" television set; Sadie Keller, set of new tires; Andrew Seibel, clock radio; Henry Sklenar, set of seat covers; and Alvin Bernhardt, pair of safety belts.

Rev. Martin Mappes, who has been pastor at Trinity Lutheran Church, Ramona, since July 1954, will leave Monday to accept a new charge at Hoyleton, Ill.

Mr. Len Harden and Jim Commerford took the first 10 of the Tampa basketball game to Lawrence Friday to see the KU-Washington and K-State-California games. Boys who went were Bob and Johnny Oborny, Tom and Frank Moffitt, Johnny Schwartzman, Elmer Roy Gooding, Daniel Frantz, Bob Vajnar, Donald Beisel and Jerry Commerford.

The engagement of Audrey Ann Davies to Edmond Neal Slocombe is announced by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd M. Davies, Marion. Mr. Slocombe is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Slocombe, Peabody. A summer wedding is planned.

James Loney, well-known Marion resident for the past 22 years, retired Dec. 17 from his position as section foreman on the Rock Island Railway in this district. Mr. Loney has 36 1/2 years of continuous service as a section foreman.
