The annual "first baby" contest this year was won by Douglas Jerome Svitak, who arrived at St. Luke Hospital on Jan. 2, and is the winner of the prizes offered by Marion businessmen. The new boy is the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Svitak of Pilsen. His grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Rudy Krch and Mr. and Mrs. John Svitak.

Mr. and Mrs. Ed Pientka announce the engagement of their daughter, Joyce Marie, to Jack W. Richmond, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Richmond, Marion. No wedding plans have been made.

Mrs. Kenneth Sly entertained with a coffee at the home of her mother, Mrs. Henry Collett, Dec. 26. Guests were former classmates, Mrs. Danny Schmidt of Beverly, Mrs. Frank Scandone of Wichita, Mrs. Harry Koslowsky, Mrs. Lee Roy Palmer, and Mrs. Jerry Tuell of Wichita.

Miss Jeanette Russell of Marion was crowned "Miss Venus," the most beautiful girl at Phillips University, Enid, Okla., where she is a student, as a climax to the annual beauty contest held at the university.

Ronald Hiebert, Marion, a member of the Hornet baseball team, received his first "K" and congratulations of E.D. (Gus) Fish, Emporia State College basketball and golf coach, who made the awards.

Mr. and Mrs. Ralph D. Mathews announce the engagement of their daughter, Betty June, to Mr. John E. Meirowsky, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Meirowsky of Florence. No wedding date has been set.

The Rudy Konariks were early birds Saturday morning for a trip to Wichita where their daughter, Mary Theresa, was on the Kitty Clover TV show at 8:30. Nancy Klenda also was on the program.

Mrs. Grace Stenzel entertained with a supper Thursday evening in honor of Pvt. Robert Ehrlich, who is home on leave from Fort Lewis, Wash.
