One of the landmarks of Marion County is being torn down. The wind turbine located at Pilsen is a familiar sight and has been for more than 80 years, but has not been in use for the past 10 years. Built by Joe Vinduska Sr., father of J.J. Vinduska, the turbine was originally used to power tools in the Vinduska machine shop on their farm. It was constructed in the 1870s.

Wencel Vlk made quite a catch a week ago Sunday when he trapped a 52-pound beaver on the Cottonwood, south of Marion. Vlk has caught five others also this season. The smallest of the six weighed 18 pounds. Vlk has had good luck this season. He also caught two mink on Clear Creek, the pelts bringing in $48 for the pair.
