What is acclaimed as one of the best oil wells in Marion County in many years came in as a gusher last week three and one-half miles northeast of Marion for H.B. Ratzlaff and Associates on the Sam U. Groening quarter near the old Rock Island Quarry Siding. "The well will easily make the allowable of fifty barrels of light, high grade oil per day with no water, and that's what we want," Ratzlaff said.

Dean Batt, Marion attorney and abstracter, was installed as 1955 president of the Marion Kiwanis Club at their regular Monday noon meeting this week.

Next Monday, Judge Jay E. Hargett completes 30 years of public service in Marion County — twenty-six as Probate Judge and Judge of the County Court, and four as county attorney.

Darold Longhofer, assisted by his mother, Mrs. Estil Longhofer, entertained 12 of his friends Thursday afternoon in celebration of his seventh birthday. Those present included Blair Post, Bob Hoch, George Jackson, Jim Ottensmeier, Jim Weidenbener, John Schmersey, Richard Hume, Pat Costello, Wally Slusser, Dennis Conyers, Bob Good, Wally Bledsoe, and David Longhofer.

Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Wolf announce the engagement of their daughter, Sarabel, to Clair C. Garrison, son of Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Garrison, Emporia. The wedding date has been set for early spring.

The Tom Hett family is happy to announce the arrival of a baby girl, Teresa Renee, born December 29 at St. Luke Hospital. The little miss was welcomed home by her two brothers, Rocky and Bruce, and two sisters, LaVonda and Shelley.

Mr. and Mrs. Henry Collett announce the engagement of their daughter, Anita Kay, to Kenneth D. Sly, son of Mr. and Mrs. H.W. Sly. No wedding date has been set.

The first baby born in the new year at St. Luke was Blaine Douglas Ammeter, son of Mr. and Mrs. Sherman Ammeter, Florence. Blaine was born Jan. 5 and weighed 8 pounds 11 ounces.
