The famous Salk serum to combat poliomyelitis is once more being given to children in Marion County. Children, aged 1 though 9, may receive the Salk vaccine at clinics, at the Health Dept., or from their own doctor.

Marion's new machinery dealers, Hett's Implement Co., will hold an open house and celebration at their agency Saturday to mark the annual "John Deere Day" in the Marion community.

Fred D. Allen, Marion city clerk, this week was appointed county clerk by the Marion county commissioners. Allen fills the vacancy in the county office occasioned by the resignation of Francis R. Roberts.

The school children have been enjoying the snow of the past two weeks and the coasting on the hill school grounds. Jean Morse, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roger Morse had the misfortune to slide down the incline on the west part of the playgrounds, running her leg through the fence cutting it so that 12 stitches were required to close the wound.

Names called in this week's Cash Day drawing are: Claud E. Dixon, received $210; Wilbur L. Melcher, received $15; Mrs. Calvin Hall, Cedar Point, not present; Louise Weathers, Antelope, received $5; and Fred H. Schimpf, not present. Drawings are held at 2 p.m. every Wednesday afternoon in the participating stores.

The climax of the fine North Marion County League basketball tournament came Saturday when Ramona walked off with first place honors. Goessel was second, Lehigh, third, and Durham, fourth.
