Dr. J.C. Haupt, longtime Peabody resident and one of the best-known optometrists of Kansas, died Wednesday. He had been in ill health for some time and had sold his long-established business some months ago to Dr. D.J. Stangle.

When two boys from the small town of Marion meet accidentally in a city the size of London about the first thing that comes to mind is the old cliché, "small world, isn't it?" When Major Bernard Hayen was on his way home after a year of foreign service he happened into an English eating place and there at a table sat M/Sgt. Merle Ayler and his wife who were vacationing in London from the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad where he is an attache. The boys had time for a brief visit before Major Hayen left for the States. Major Hayen's new assignment is at the new Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs.

A two million dollar technical high school, dedicated to the memory of Chaplain Capt. Emil J. Kapaun, will be completed late this spring and will stand as a living monument to the young army chaplain who died in 1951 at a North Korea war prisoner camp while caring for American captives.

Mr. and Mrs. Edward Costello were hosts Friday evening to a group of friends for an evening of bridge which resulted in the organization of an evening bridge club. The initial membership of the club will include: Mr. and Mrs. Costello, Mr. and Mrs. Rosse B. Case, Mr. and Mrs. Max Jackson, Dr. and Mrs. Chas. Magee, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Colburn, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. McCartney, and Dr. and Mrs. Earl Wood.
