The proposed bond issue to buy land for a combined athletic, recreational, and show and exhibition field at the edge of Marion passed easily at the regular city election Tuesday. The vote was 267 for, 104 against.

Two Marion High School girls were named this week to go to the annual Girls State June 10-17. They are Margie Bernhardt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Bernhardt and Maxine Hinz, daughter of Rev. and Mrs. L.B. Hinz. Alternates are Elda Pankratz and Mary Lou Conyers.

Marion's new black Plymouth police car went into official use this week, taking the place of the 1952 Ford which had been in service over three years.

Two more new business moves of real interest to the public are in the making in Marion. Mr. and Mrs. W.J. Hassinger are in the process of purchasing the Mack Hardware building at the corner of Main and Second streets and Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Broadstreet have leased the present Jackson's store location in the Case building.

Mrs. William Bredemeier of Marion won a Master Egg Producers trophy in the recent contest sponsored by Hy-Line Poultry. She was presented the trophy by J.O. Coombs and Son of Sedgwick. The trophy goes to contest entrants whose flocks averaged 237 eggs per hen in 12 months. The national average is about 155, it was pointed out.

Mrs. Joe Atherton asked the girls in the fifth grade for a party after school Wednesday evening honoring her daughter, JoEllen's, 11th birthday. Those present included Betty Tipton, Helen Olsen, Ruth Lais, Sydney Hume, Glenda May, Edith Jewett, Mary Stevens and Donna Newsom.
