Mayor Ira Newcomer has named Wayne Colle to be director of Civilian Defense activities for Marion, with Horace Sly as assistant director. A civil defense alert will be held within the next few days, with one city in Kansas being the victim of a mock bombing. In the event the city in Kansas is Wichita, then Marion will be asked to take care of 2,300 people from the disaster area.

The major improvement at Marion High School this summer will be a transformation of the old gymnasium in the high school building, into a modern music department.

The first load of new wheat was reported Tuesday evening at the Aulne Elevator when Sam Seibel of west of Aulne brought in a load of Early Triumph. It was averaging about 18-20 bushels per acre. Tested 61 pounds with 14.5 percent moisture.

Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Kruse announce the approaching marriage of their daughter, Patricia Diane, to Lowell Edward Socolofsky, Ramona. The couple has selected the evening of July 24 for their wedding ceremony.

Miss Donna Miesse will leave Sunday by plane from Kansas City for a visit with friends in Washington, D.C. She will be the houseguest of Miss Catherine Burkholder during her stay in the capital city.

Miss Theodora Longhofer was guest of honor at a miscellaneous shower Saturday evening at the home of Mrs. Howard Groening. Assisting hostesses were Carol Schlehuber, Donna Rose Pankratz, Wilma Geis, Mrs. Abe Mohn and Mrs. R.K. Maybell.
