Eleven students are enrolled at the University of Kansas summer session. Those from Marion include James Ray Garrison, Joe Bill Gound, Anna Belle Rees, Dennis Dick Richards, and Mary Ann LeMoine from Lincolnville.

Gemma Jirak, 11-year-old daughter of Henry Jirak, who lives near Pilsen, received a 16-volume set of "The Children's Hour" for sending in the winning question to the Ask Andy column in the Wichita paper. Gemma's question was, "Will you please tell me about the gila monster?"
