Gene Heath, for the past 10 years Marion County weed supervisor, has been named as assistant state weed inspector, it is announced this week by the Kansas State Board of Agriculture. Heath said, "We intend to keep our home in Marion since the job is one that requires a good deal of travel over the state".

Plans are now being completed by the cemetery board for a new entranceway to the Marion cemetery. The plans call for a cut stone wall with appropriate plaques and markers and extending for a way on either side of the entrance.

Two cases of polio have been reported in Marion County the past week, bringing to four the total number this year. The most recent is Dean Keller, 5-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Alec Keller of Tampa. He is reported as getting along satisfactorily. It was reported last Wednesday that Charlotte Enns, 13, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roland Bartel of Lehigh, was taken to a Hutchinson hospital.

Continental Oil company this week announced the appointment of the Pierce Oil Co. of Marion as the new distributor-jobber for their products in the area. Pierce Oil Co. is owned by Mr. and Mrs. W.M. "Bud" Pierce.

In a beautiful wedding at Holy Redeemer church, Tampa, double ring nuptial vows were repeated July 19 by Frances Elizabeth Mastek, daughter of Vincent J. Mastek of Tampa, and Eugene Dale Malir, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Malir of Wilson.

Stephen Collett will celebrate his 11th birthday Sunday with a picnic at a Wichita park. The guests will visit the zoo, Joyland, and other places of interest. Those who will go with him are Mr. and Mrs. Henry Collett, Mark and Stacey and Mr. and Mrs. William A. Hammer.

Members of the Marion Babe Ruth baseball team, sponsored by Navrat's Phillips 66 and the Marion Athletic Association have just completed a very successful season, including participation in the state tournament at Kingman last week. Team members are Larry Burkholder, Jerry Schwemmer, Bob Bass, Bud Kelsey, Coy Giles, Garry Vogel, Gerald Kelsey, Mickey Summervill, Dennis Roberston, Dennis Navrat, Warren Vogel, Delton Richmond, Keith Conyers, Jim Gilbert, and John Christensen. Their coach was Arnold Schwemmer with Ed Navrat as manager.
