Petitions are being circulated in Marion this weekend asking the city commission to take necessary steps to put the question of issuing bonds for the construction of a municipal swimming pool on a special ballot at the November election.

Old Settlers plans are complete for the big day here Oct. 5. Plans include outstanding speakers, dog platoon from Fort Riley, J.D. Ferrell to again lead the gigantic street parade and many other attractions. The featured speaker at the afternoon program will be Brigadier General Charles W. O'Bryant, a Marion County boy who was born and raised in the Elk neighborhood and attended Marion schools.

Mike Woods' birthday was celebrated Saturday evening at a family dinner at the home of his parents, Dr. and Mrs. Earl Wood. On Monday evening, Mrs. Wood asked the neighbor children for a wiener roast at the park in further celebration of Mike's birthday.

A luncheon at the home of Mrs. Ed Harn Thursday began the year for Thimble Club which is the oldest social club in Marion. Mrs. Harn was assisted by Mrs. Alice Padgett in serving the luncheon.

A potluck supper featuring new and untried recipes highlighted the first meeting of 20th Century Club Monday evening at the city building. Club membership includes Mrs. Stanley Anderson, Mrs. Jack Beaston, Mrs. Alex Case Jr., Mrs. Rosse B. Case, Mrs. Edward Colburn, Mrs. Ed Costello, Mrs. James Criswell, Mrs. Jerry Dyck, Mrs. Edward Frickey, Mrs. W.K. Holmes, Mrs. Wm. McCartney, Mrs. Bill Meyer, Mrs. Norman Plenert, Mrs. Bill Richardson, Mrs. Alva Thompson, Mrs. Earl Van Buren, Mrs. Ray Vinduska, Mrs. C.R. Wall, Mrs. Earl Wood, Mrs. Wm. Wygle and Mrs. Floyd Yaussi.

Announcement was made by Jack Beaston, house committee chairman, that the American Legion clubrooms will be open Friday evening after the football game for the benefit of members and their guests.

Little Pam Vinduska, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Vinduska of Marion, drew the name of Mrs. Homer Hett out of the hat to win $50 in frozen foods. The drawing was the conclusion of highly successful week-long display of Frigidaire Appliances by Cook TV at the Wingerd IGA store.
