J.D. Ferrell's famous Palomino "Kansas Gold" will lead the Old Settlers' parade this coming Friday, bringing to the annual event a mount which has been ridden in all the major parades and horse shows of the nation. Principal speaker for the afternoon program in the park will be Judge Jay E. Hargett, well-known by the entire county.

Local football fans will be well-pleased with the new "tick-away" electric scoreboard recently installed at the Marion High School athletic field. The minute and second figures, for time remaining in the quarter being played, are a full two feet in height and automatically operated by the official timekeeper.

Mrs. James T. Moffitt, Tampa, announces the engagement of her daughter, Aileen, to First Lieutenant John V. Corbisiero, Medford, Mass. The marriage will take place Oct. 22 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, Tampa.

The city crew is building platforms around the two new wells at the water plant. The two wells are reported to be producing about 85,000 gallons of water daily.

Harry Weibert had a surprise Tuesday morning while frying eggs at his Owl Car Café. He cracked one open and found not one, not two, but three nice big perfectly formed yolks.

The public seems to be responding cheerfully and well to the fund appeal of the Marion County Historical Museum through the current sale of buttons, according to Chairman Leslie Broadstreet. A fund of at least $500 is sought to make possible the purchase of more display cabinets, and to otherwise carry on the modest plans of the museum.
