A caravan of Marion boosters, advertising the Old Settlers' Day celebration in Marion on Oct. 5, will tour Marion County towns this Friday, Sept. 28. The group is planning on leaving at 9:30 a.m. and return by mid — afternoon.

A raging fire, whipped by strong winds, completely destroyed the recently completed rural home of Mrs. Helen Good Martin, located about five miles southeast of Marion, Thursday afternoon. Accurate estimate of the total loss is difficult to determine, but it probably will run near $100,000.

Ed Frickey's Warriors broke an old jinx Friday night when they tied Moundridge in the season opener. It is interesting to note that Marion out-pointed Moundridge in all statistics except the score.

Virginia Goentzel, of the Morning Star neighborhood southwest of Marion, was the victim of an unusual accident last week. Her hair got caught in the power-driven wringer on the family washing machine. Fortunately, she was able to get the power shut off before suffering extreme injury, but she did receive painful bruises and after-effects where some of the hair was pulled out.

Mrs. Herman Behrendt asked small guests for a party Tuesday afternoon honoring her son Lloyd's third birthday. Those present included Shelley Batt, Sandra Hoover, Joy Laubhan, Gary Melcher, Brenda Kay Foth, Debra Voth and Steven Behrendt.

A linen and china shower given Tuesday evening at the home of Mrs. Henry Klose honored Miss Arlene Klein whose wedding will be an event of early October. Mrs. Bob Highsmith was assisting hostess.

Miss Marlys Sue Riffel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Riffel, Lincolnville, became the bride of John Wayne Gutsch, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Gutsch, also of Lincolnville, at a wedding in the home of the bride's parents Thursday evening, Sept. 20, at 7:30.

Bank personnel attending the Kansas Bankers Association in Derby Wednesday included Mr. and Mrs. Earl Kreuter, Mac Kreuter, Barbara Jirak, and Pat Foth from Marion National and Mr. and Mrs. L.L. Hadsell, Mrs. Agnes Price, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Books and Rose Marie Holub from Farmers and Drovers.
