Beginning Monday, April 5, all three schools in Marion will begin the day at 8:20 in the morning and close at 4 p.m., A.J. Shull, superintendent of schools, announces. This adds 40 minutes to the morning sessions and 20 to the afternoon class time. This will continue through the school year. The move is necessary to make up time lost when there was insufficient fuel available to heat the school buildings. The band members will really have an early class. It will meet at 7:40 a.m. every day.

The Western Auto Associate Store at 314 E. Main has been sold by George H. Miser to Ed McClain of Wichita. It was announced Monday and Mr. McClain took over the management of the store that day.

James Blackim has applied for a visitor's passport to Ireland and Scotland. He plans to leave New York June 2 on the S.S. American and will land at Queenstown, Ireland. Present plans are that he will fly home from Shannon, Ireland, to New York.

The second story over the Coons' Restaurant is being remodeled into two apartments by the owner of the building, Edward Good. He reports they will not be ready for occupancy for several weeks.

Jerry Hett was pleasantly surprised Friday evening when a group of his friends came in to help him celebrate his birthday. Mrs. Don Hett and Mrs. Art Hett served two kinds of cake, Jell-o and coffee. Guests were Dolores Rashliegh, Little River; Bob Gutsch, Lincolnville; Dorothy McCarty, Gilmer Stubby, Darlene Tuell, Melvin Tuell, Dean Penland, Orris McKibbin, Dale Anderson, Peggy McCarty, and Mr. and Mrs. Don Hett and children.
