Quite a delegation of Marion folks drove over to Newton Wednesday morning to see President Truman as his cross-country train made a brief stop there — one of only three in the state.

Marion County Lake was the resting place for more than four hours Friday for a 4-month-old 1947 DeSoto automobile belonging to Claude Heil of Wichita. With last Friday's dunking, nine cars have been treated to a soaking by the Marion County Lake since its opening, according to Jerry Mullikin, lake superintendent. Three cars have floated into the deep portion of the lake, which goes to nearly 25 feet at the deepest point. Six cars have rolled into the shallow water.

Sixteen teams from towns over this area have been certified to enter the district semi-pro baseball tournament which opens on the Marion ball field Friday, district commissioner Wilbur Melcher, of Marion, has announced.

George Baxter, young Marion farmer and aviation enthusiast, has been named seventh district chairman of the Flying Farmers organization. Thirteen counties with membership of 75 farmers make up the seventh district. Eight Marion County farmers are members of the organization.

E.J. Kelsey, 94-year-old Marion pioneer, is this city's oldest father and he can look to 14 children, 54 grandchildren, 67 great-grandchildren, and several great-great-grandchildren to honor him on Sunday, Father's Day.

Wanda Lou Propp was quite surprised Tuesday morning when she received a check for $5 from the Pepsi Cola company. She had entered their "Treasure Top" contest and finished the statement and won one of the monthly prizes.
