Winter held the Marion community firmly in its grip for the past week with thermometers hovering near zero and below each night. Last weekend a feathery snow piled up to four to six inches on the ground. School, churches and the laundry were asked to curtail activities Tuesday night as a precautionary measure for gas pressure.

Marion has six eating establishments which have earned a Grade A rating and five with Grade B, Dr. O.C. McCandless, county health director, announced Tuesday. Restaurants given the Grade A rating include Coons' Restaurant, Cozy Café, Cubby Hole, Del Mar, Lee's Grill and Owl Car Lunch. Other eating places were in the B bracket, with none classified Grade C.

A much discussed picture of the year, "Forever Amber," will play a road engagement in Marion Tuesday and Wednesday at the Kaw Theater.

The following officers were elected at the Wednesday evening meeting of Girl Scout Troop 1: Shirley Smith, president; Nancy Burkholder, vice president; Ginger Price, secretary; Karen Brodhead, pianist; Janet Harris, game leader; Nancy Allen, scribe. Mrs. Douglas Herbert and Mrs. Howard Siebert are the leaders.

Four men from Marion County were interviewed by Bob Riley over KFRM at the Kansas City Stockyards Jan. 16. Almost the entire 15 minutes of the radio show, "The Man From the Stockyards," was taken up by interviews with Harry Helmer, Leo Jirak and Daniel E. Eitel, all three of Tampa, and Robert Geis of Durham.
