The first report of new garden stuff being picked this season came into the office today. Green beans, it was, right off the tender plants. We admit it, there is a catch to it. The garden is in the second grade room where each child planted his own little seeds in paper cups of earth several weeks back, under the guidance of their teacher, Miss Ruth Jo Willming.
The Del Mar Coffee Shop, which was gutted by fire several weeks ago reopened Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. Robert DeCatsye, owners, have completely refurbished and remodeled the interior with new fixtures and seating arrangements.
Mrs. Frances Langley entertained a number of little friends at a party March 26 in celebration of her daughter, Charlotte's third birthday Guests were Gary and Barbara Weber, Jerry Shirley, Dickie Varenhorst, Timmie and Maurice Williams, James and Mary Melton, Clara, Charles and Gwendolyn Williams, Kenny Good, James Robert Meisner, Patty Longhofer, Robert Ecker Jr. and Jerry Lee and Stephen Williams of Kansas City.
The senior class of Marion High School is planning a lot of fun and high entertainment for their audience when they present "The Minstrel" March 28 in the high school auditorium. The first part of the evening will bring Clyde Hiebert as interlocutor, and the end men, Dale Weyand, Don Schlotz, Jim Garrison and Earl Janzen in a skit designed for laughter. Two plays will be presented in the second portion, one by the senior girls, the other by the senior boys.
Mrs. M.S. Bryan reached her 90th birthday March 17 and is pictured on the front page with her two daughters, Mrs. Walter Siebert and Mrs. Al Richardson. An open house was held at the Richardson home in honor of the occasion.
Dr. R.R. Melton, mayor and commissioner of parks, tells that a long range program of beautiful and added usefulness of Marion's Central Park began this week. A fill is being made that will ultimately make possible drainage of the swampy, unhealthful area around the spring. The plan is, also, to put a road through that area and up around the proposed hospital.
Edward W. McGinness of Aulne has pledged Farm House, social fraternity at Kansas State College, Manhattan. McGinness is a freshman in agriculture.
